Tasks and Criteria
Evidence Asked
Evidence Provided

Task 1: Research – LO1, LO2, LO3

You should begin by researching games in

your genre.

You should research and analyse the type

of audience that you will be creating your

game for.

Analyse games for that audience from both a visual and contextual point of view, what are their characteristics?

Genre research

Audience analysis

Visual research

Find inspiration from an artist or designer and analyse their work for effectiveness.

You should aim for a mixture of primary & secondary research.

Research must be Harvard Referenced.

Harvard referenced bibliography

Task 2: Planning & Design – LO4, LO6

Your design stage will be shared between team members but should still follow the basic structure you usually do.

Narrative structure

You should develop the narrative structure via treatment sheets, character analysis etc.

Storyboarding

You should create a storyboard for any animation you may create.

You should create some preliminary sketches. These sketches must be annotated.

Annotated rough designs x 20 - 30

You should develop several of the best ideas into developed designs. You must have accompanying notes as to why you have chosen these designs.

Developed Stage – Developed designs with screenshots and development rationales.

Finally you should create your final piece/s.

Final design/s. (Story, Models, Concept art, GUI, Splash screens, Title cards, Credits, Controller layouts, Textures, Animations, Environment, Vehicles, Weapons, Effects, Maps, UI designs etc.)

Task 3: Evaluation – LO5, LO8

You must critically reflect and evaluate the research and design process. This may be submitted written, typed or as an oral video blog.

Complete Evaluation

In most (if not all) video games, each item will have a description written under it whether it would be to help the player understand the item and its uses, or just to describe it in more detail. In our case, the book given to the MC by the wizard contains the ancient traveller's notes. As a team, we tried our best to show this in the descriptions.

Status Effects
Sugar Rush

Sugar Rush can be activated by consuming sweet meals. The duration varies depending on amount, and sweetness. Sugar Rush can only be activated from scores 3 and up. This mechanic activates an absurd speed boost, however, makes the character Limp after the boost.

Heat

Heat is a Temperature mechanic that is activated in the region Crumble Craters. Slows the character down, will faint if spent too long. Immune if you consume First Time meal: Yeti Tears Snow Cone.

Cold

Cold is a Temperature mechanic that is activated in the region Ledynas. Slows the character down, will freeze if spent too long. Immune if you consume First Time meal: Phoenix Burger.

Tipsy

Tipsy can be activated by consuming alcoholic items, or swimming in the Flowing Wine for over a minute. The characters vision will go blurry, all stats become weakened by 5%, will throw up and faint if too much alcohol is consumed.

Electrocuted

Electrocuted is a rare, randomly activated effect. When hit by lightning, the character gets an absurd attack boost, but only for one attack. Defence is also weakened.

Potion Sickness

Potion Sickness can be activated by consuming too many potions. The character cannot consume any more potions, the effect is applied for around 5 seconds before the character throws up. This can teach players to not be wasteful and greedy with the buffs.

Energy System - Special Attacks

For our power system, we decided to base it off of planets and what they represent. Mind Control: Ability to make the enemy dance as distraction.

Jupiter (Air, Gas Mastery)
